We're Reaping the Benefits Daily of Working With You
Katharine was ‘blinded’ by her son’s unexpected dyslexia diagnosis just as he was about to move from primary to secondary school. She felt lost and fearful because her own experience of school, with dyslexia, had not been a very positive one.
She desperately wanted to understand what the diagnosis could mean for him and how she could best support him, but her experience was now colouring her view of how her son’s education would be!
Working together, Katharine and I decoded her son’s dyslexia diagnosis to understand his challenges, the support he would need and the opportunities that his diagnosis could bring. I helped her to separate her own experience of school from his.
From this empowered position she was able to advocate for him and ensure he received appropriate support when moving into year 7.
Within weeks of starting our work together, Katharine reported back ‘You helped us take time to process our son’s dyslexia diagnosis, create a plan with him at the centre of it and support him from a place of opportunity. Our son is now being his wholehearted self. He shows up at his new school as himself and is no longer trying to be someone else to ‘fit in’. He’s valued for who he is. His new class teacher has described him as an asset to the school’.
‘We’re reaping the benefits daily, of working with you’.
