Helping Your Child Learn From Home With Dyslexia

Many of you have recently been thrown in the deep end and are currently discovering the ‘joys’ of helping your child learn from home.  After Easter we will be starting home schooling in our house too. That doesn’t sound like it should be too difficult for a teacher does it?

Except, it’s not quite what it seems, because we will be home-schooling a puppy!

We have signed up to become puppy walkers for Guide Dogs for the Blind, which means that our home will become part of the ‘school experience’ for the puppy.

So, I’ll be back at the chalk face learning how to Puppy Walk. But because of the current lockdown all training for Puppy Walkers has been cancelled for the time being. There will be no communal training at the Guide Dog centre and no local puppy classes.

I will have a bundle of joy and energy on my hands and the only support to help me educate them will be virtual.

Does that sound familiar to you?

It started me thinking about how much I will be relying on the Puppy Training team to support me on this new adventure. We’ve had a dog before, in fact we puppy walked 15 years ago for Guide Dogs, but a lot has changed since then. Many of their training methods have been revised and updated. Even though I have some know-how, I will still need support and guidance from the experienced experts. I will also be juggling puppy training with my day job and family life.

That led me to start thinking about YOU. The mums & dads who are very unexpectedly supporting their children as they learn from home. You're in a similar situation - having to learn remotely.

You’ve been through the school system. You will have passed through the vary stages that your child is going through now. You may even have dyslexia yourself and have an inkling of the challenges that they are currently facing. BUT the education system is different now. Children are taught using different methods. They are probably being taught different content to that which you were taught too.

So, I’ve decided to create an online programme especially for you, Helping your child with dyslexia learn from home, so you can feel confident and empowered as you support your child at home.

It’s the ultimate guide to understanding your child’s dyslexia and knowing how to support them so they can succeed and thrive whilst learning from home.

If you are struggling to motivate your child to complete the work that school have provided for them. If there are frequent battles as you try to organise their learning and help them stay on track. If you are feeling isolated, confused and disconnected as you have no idea how to start supporting them, and their dyslexia seems to be making life even more complicated. I can help & support you.

You will …

• learn what dyslexia is and how it manifests - it’s not just ‘dodgy spelling’. By understanding your child’s challenges, you’ll have a better understanding of why your child acts and behaves as they do.

• learn how you can support them positively and proactively without having to spend all day, every day, cajoling them to work or getting frustrated when they won’t even engage with you, let alone try!

• understand how to create a dyslexia friendly learning environment, so your child is ready and able to learn.

So that you can…

• change your perception of dyslexia. You’ll be able to appreciate the advantages of dyslexia and specifically how your child CAN thrive and achieve, when learning at home, because of their dyslexia.

• recognise and appreciate your child’s individual/unique strengths and know how to encourage them to develop these skills and benefit from their dyslexia advantage.

• learn strategies to empower you as a parent while you navigate the unknown territory of supporting your child as they learn from home.

The course is running for 8 weeks. Each week will have a specific theme, and support will be delivered through 3 sessions: a mindset mastery session, a strategy session, and a question and answer session.

There will also be a FB group for connection and community.

Your investment will be £99 for the 8-week course.

It starts on Monday 21st April 2020.

If you are ready to feel empowered so you can positively and proactively support your child through the next few months, please email hello@educationangel.co.uk for more details.
